Kia is transforming its reputation from an automaker that should be avoided to manufacturing advanced, luxury models. It’s making waves in the realm of SUVs with a variety of award-winning options. But which Kia SUV is the best? Check out the top four Kia contenders.

Which Kia SUV Is the Best?

1. The Kia Telluride

The Kia Telluride is the latest Kia SUV model to be introduced. It’s marketing as a luxurious family SUV that can weather adverse conditions with comfort, capability, and style.

With the ability to seat up to 8 passengers, this massive SUV has more than enough room to bring your entire family along. However, it is a pricier option. The Telluride starts around $31k and quickly climbs in price with higher trim options.

The Telluride also isn’t very fuel-efficient. It only receives 20 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. However, it doesn’t skimp on power. Its 3.8-L V6 engine provides 291 horsepower and 261 lb-ft torque with a maximum towing capacity of 5,000 pounds.

2. The Kia Sorento

The Kia Sorento is a trusted SUV that’s been around since 2002. It’s had three successful generations, and the fourth one is being manufactured right now. But, we will focus on the current 2020 model.

The Kia Sorento starts for $26k, which is about $5k cheaper than the Telluride, even though they aren’t that different. The Sorento can seat up to seven passengers and is only about five inches shorter in length than the Telluride.

With a fuel economy of up to 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway, the Sorento is similar to the Telluride. However, it does have a little less power. The 3.3-L V6 engine only pumps out 290 horsepower and 252 lb-ft torque.

Although, the Sorento can still tow up to 5,000 lb and is slightly lighter than the Telluride. It may also have a somewhat less luxurious feel in the interior.

3. The Kia Niro

Let’s scale things down a little with the compact Kia Niro. This small SUV doesn’t have a 2020 model yet, but you can get started in the 2019 model for about $23k. Also, the 2020 hybrid is coming soon.

Along with saving on the Niro’s price tag, you’ll also gain savings at the pump because this Kia is exceptionally fuel-efficient. The Kia Niro rings in with getting up to 52 mpg in the city and 49 mpg on the highway.

The 1.6-L four-cylinder electric engine produces 136 horsepower, which is weaker in comparison to the larger, gas-guzzling SUVs. It can go 0 to 60 mph in about 11.6 seconds, so it does feel a little slow.

It’s a great, spacious option that can seat up to five passengers for puddling around town; however, if you need to fit more people or two something, than it might be too small.

4. The Kia Sportage

The Kia Sportage is another compact SUV that can seat up to five people. You can get started in a 2020 model for around $23k. However, like the Telluride and Sorento, this SUV doesn’t have the best fuel economy.

It receives up to 20 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. The Sportage is also equipped with a 2.4-L four-cylinder engine that produces 181 horsepower and 175 lb-ft torque with a maximum towing compacity of 163 lb.

The Kia Sportage is capable even though it can’t tow 5,000 lb. It provides a smooth ride and is outfitted with advanced tech features for an immersive yet sporty driving experience.
