When you’re trying to find the best version of a vehicle, turn to the experts’ opinions to determine the optimal choice. For Car and Driver, the 2022 Volkswagen Atlas SE is the most desirable. It says the V6-powered selection with the Technology package is the way to go. In addition, all-wheel drive is available for another $1,900, placing the price at just over $40,000. While that makes it more expensive, it’s still much more affordable than even the next highest SEL model.

Furthermore, C/D likes the standard features included with this upgraded SE trim. Things like an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, adaptive cruise control, three-zone climate control, and remote start are excellent to have for $40K. Lastly, C/D likes that second-row captain’s chairs are an option. Many midsize SUVs don’t offer it as an option until you pay for a more expensive trim level.

Edmunds thinks the 2022 Volkswagen Atlas SE is the best trim

According to Edmunds, the best version of the 2022 Volkswagen Atlas is the SE trim with the Technology package. Surprisingly, it’s the exact suggestion that C/D made. When multiple critics agree, it’s usually a good sign that it’s the best trim to buy. Edmunds says to buy this setup because it’s well-equipped and the least expensive way to get the upgraded Atlas V6 engine.

Standard SE features include LED headlights, a power liftgate, proximity keyless entry/ignition, heated front seats, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. Other less exciting items are also standard, like a power-adjustable driver’s seat, rear window sunshades, and a 6.5-inch touchscreen. Safety features like forward collision mitigation, blind-spot monitor, and rear cross-traffic alert come with the SE trim as well.
