The Mazda CX-30 has become a popular subcompact SUV, thanks to its zippy handling, excellent reliability, and attractive pricing. Plus, it comes in feature-heavy trims that fit consumers’ many needs. Here, we compare 2021 CX-30 trim levels to help you decide which one is best for you.

The 2021 Mazda CX-30 at a glance

The Mazda CX-30 doesn’t strive to be the best at one thing. The carmaker notices what drivers like about its competitors and gives it to them in a more accessibly priced car. The result is one of the best utility vehicles you can get for under $25,000.

With a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine producing 186 hp that drivers can upgrade to 250 hp, U.S. News reports, the CX-30 doesn’t skimp on power, even if that’s not the model’s selling point. But it also gets excellent fuel economy, with an EPA-estimated 25 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway.

From driveability to features, it’s one of the best-reviewed cars on the market. As such, Mazda maintains its reputation as an affordable alternative to luxury vehicles. The automaker doesn’t try to entice deep-pocketed buyers. Everyone from the base model up will enjoy the experience of getting behind this wheel.

Mazda CX-30 trim levels and prices

According to Mazda, the CX-30 base model starts at only $22,050. But you get a whole lot of bang for your buck, with a 186-hp engine, LED headlights, and Mazda Connect infotainment system with an 8.8-inch center display.

Plus, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, Wi-Fi, HD Radio, voice recognition, Bluetooth, driver assistance, a reverse camera, a rain-sensing windshield, remote keyless entry, and more come standard. Many of those features are add-ons in other models. Still, by giving the standard model so many bells and whistles, Mazda is banking on making everyone happy, not just those who buy the most expensive trim.

For $24,050, the Select trim also offers leather upholstery instead of cloth, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts.

For $26,450, you can get the Preferred trim. It adds a power-sliding moonroof, heated front seats, an eight-way adjustable driver’s seat, and memory seating to keep things the way people want them.

The Premium model, starting at $28,700, adds even more luxe features. They include leather-trimmed seats, adaptive front lights, and a rear power liftgate.

Then there are the Turbo trims. They boost the CX-30’s power to 250 hp with a SKYACTIV-G 2.5 turbo engine, Mazda Radar cruise control, and black 18-inch alloy wheels. The Turbo model starts at $30,050. The $32,450 Turbo Premium trim adds a Bose sound system, a power rear liftgate, and leather-trimmed seats. And for $34,050, the Turbo Premium Plus boasts a 360-degree-view monitor, smart brakes, and traffic jam assistance in addition to all the aforementioned features.

So, it’s safe to say there are plenty of model choices for an already popular crossover. Now, the question is, which CX-30 should you get?

Which trim should you get?

Of course, the trim you get depends on your budget, needs, and desires. If you want a simple yet safe and reliable crossover at a bargain price, the base model will more than satisfy you. But if you’re looking for a more luxurious ride or want a specific advanced feature, such as rear cross-traffic alerts, you’ll want to upgrade to a higher trim.

Sure, there are more powerful and feature-heavy cars than the CX-30. But by including a sophisticated system from the base model up to the Turbo Premium Plus, this Mazda offers a bit of everything for everyone.

In a world where many cars with similar features and amenities cost at least double, the Mazda CX-30 is a refreshing choice. It’s a no-brainer for anyone looking for tons of features at a great price.
