Feel like you’ve missed the bus on the Ford small truck? Well, apparently, order banks for the 2024 Ford Maverick are set to open in July. And that could be your chance to get one of the more sought-after pickups on the market. Production is going to start on October 14th, 2023.

Will there be a 2024 Ford Maverick?

Ford’s small truck will continue with the 2024 Maverick. If you have been looking for a Ford Maverick, you’ve likely noticed that getting one is not all that easy. In the past, the Blue Oval has been forced to close order books almost as soon as they open.

Order books for the 2024 Maverick are scheduled to open on July 17th, 2023. And later on in October, production will actually start. At the same time, the 2023 model will seize production at the Hermosillo Assembly plant. Hopefully, by that time, Ford will have figured out some of the kinks on how to keep up with demand.

Ford is ramping up production of the Maverick

As reported by Ford Authority, the Blue Oval is taking steps in order to build more Maverick trucks. The company is adding a third shift at the plant the pickup is built at, plus more workers are being hired.

Until that makes a visible impact, purchasing a Ford Maverick is fairly difficult. In fact, used Mavericks have actually been commanding a higher price tag than new models. And that shows how high the demand is for Ford’s small truck.

What’s new for the 2024 Maverick?

We don’t have a lot of information on what the new Ford Maverick will change. This small truck first came about for the 2022 model year, so it might not be time for major changes quite yet. The 2023 Maverick added an off-road Tremor package, and the turbocharged EcoBoost engine lost its upcharge. But I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s no significant redesign for the 2024 Ford Maverick.

That said, it doesn’t look like folks are losing interest in this compact pickup. Anecdotally, I regularly drive by a Ford dealership, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Maverick truck sitting on the lot.

Sure, you do see plenty driving on the road. But those are by people who were either lucky enough to purchase one new or got one on the second-hand market. In 2023, it seems like supply chain issues are still impacting the Blue Oval and other automotive brands.

The small truck wars are still raging

With the 2023 Hyundai Santa Cruz and the upcoming 2024 Ford Maverick, the small truck wars are in full swing. Apparently, a Toyota Stout truck could be coming to enter the fray as well.

Until that happens, the Maverick continues to dominate the Santa Cruz in terms of sales. And that is probably because Ford’s compact pickup feels like more of a truck than Hyundai’s does. That’s something that consumers have seemed to appreciate since it was released.
