When employees at a Ford dealership in Colorado Springs, Colorado discovered a new Bronco missing its wheels and tires, they called the police. Shortly after reporting the theft, they found the stolen wheels listed on Facebook Marketplace.

Dealership employees estimate the stolen wheels and tires are worth $10,000 and are urging police to track them down after the suspect sold them.

“It is believed that the suspect sold those tires on [Saturday] to an unknown citizen in the local area, who would also be considered a victim in this case,” police told KKTV.

Detectives apprehended 26-year-old Aleeyah Niknami, who police found had stolen other valuables from her hometown. Police arrested her with methamphetamines and fentanyl in her possession.

“They also discovered one stolen vehicle from Aurora, one stolen vehicle from Colorado Springs, and two confirmed stolen trailers out of Fountain,” said a lieutenant.

Police are asking FB Marketplace buyers to step up

Detectives want locals to know that anyone who came forward with the wheels and tires would not be treated as a suspect.

Readers of the outlet’s Facebook post about it doubted the buyer would come forward because they’d be losing in two ways. They’d lose the wheels and their money.

“If you give them back, you’ll be out of the money. Let the dealership file an insurance claim and be the end of it,” a viewer wrote.

Another person said thieves stole their friend’s wheels and sold them, but police did nothing to help.

“[Police] didn’t care when I found my friend’s stolen tires on Facebook,” they wrote. “Best luck to [the buyer].”

Many thought it was strange that the dealership was claiming the wheels and tires were worth so much.

“Someone’s lying, there’s no way those wheels and tires are worth $10,000,” they said.
