Standard engines in the Nissan Altima vary, based on whether the vehicle is equipped with intelligent all-wheel drive. The Altima S and SR models with front-wheel drive have a 188-hp 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine, while the Altima S and SR models with the available all-wheel drive are equipped with a 182-hp 2.5-liter engine. All are direct-injection gasoline (DIG) engines. Every engine is mated to an electronic continuously variable transmission.

Every Nissan Altima has a standard anti-lock braking system, electronic brake-force distribution, and brake assist. All models have the same suspension system – an independent strut front suspension and a multi-link independent rear suspension. It has responsive handling thanks to dual-pinion electric-powered steering with paddle shifters standard on SR models.
