What Makes Genesis G70 Great for Families?
Can a luxury sedan really be great for families? ‘Family vehicle’ is almost synonymous with minivan or SUV these days. However, there is a newer kid on the block that has been able to keep up with the competition and surpass them in some areas like style, safety, and value. The Genesis G70 is a fantastic luxury sedan for that family that wants to have sleek style, comfort, and still be able to spend some extra money on a babysitter for a night out.
What makes Genesis G70 great for families?
Safety, value, design, and technology, are the four main benchmarks that make the Genesis G70 great for families. It took home the Good Housekeeping & Car and Driver ‘Best New Family Cars of 2020’ Awards in the category of Best Luxury Sedan in 2020.
The Genesis G70 has an exceptionally low center of gravity, which creates a wide, dramatic stance. All of their most advanced safety features, like Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with Pedestrian Detection, come standard. It can detect slower or stopped vehicles ahead, as well as pedestrians and bicycles.
The G70 Smart Cruise Control’s front-mounted radar sensor automatically maintains your distance and speed from the vehicle in front of you in traffic. Even after a full stop, speed and distance control is re-engaged when the car ahead starts moving again. Protecting you from unintended lane changes, the G70 has Lane Keeping Assist which applies corrective steering assistance when necessary.
The 2020 G70 has received several safety accolades as well. It was named an IIHS Top Safety Pick+. and earned the 2020 Women’s Choice Award® Best Car for Safety. Since women buy 52% of all new cars sold in the U.S. this is a big honor.
The G70 rivals the more expensive Mercedes-Benz C-class and the BMW 3-series, and neither are as fun to drive nor as richly appointed. Additionally, with the reliability of the Hyundai engine, it’s unlikely to have many problems.
If you do encounter mechanical issues, Genesis has complimentary valet maintenance for 3 years (they pick up your vehicle, drop it off when maintenance is done) SUPER Convenient! At $35,450 (base price) for the 2020 Genesis G70, it comes in at around $5K less than the competition.
The base G70 2.0T features a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that hits 252 horsepower (255 on the manual). It has an eight-speed automatic transmission to the rear wheels, and optional all-wheel-drive. The higher-end model has a twin-turbo 3.3-liter V-6 model, it kicks up to 365 Horsepower and 376 lb-ft of torque.
The interior has a fantastic driver-centric layout and straightforward controls that cater to driving enthusiasts. Car and Driver said, “the result is an interior that seems more luxurious than the Alfa Romeo Giulia or Jaguar XE.” The back seat is a bit tight, but younger kids will love it.
The technology in the G70 includes many features, like an available heads-up display, a surround-view monitor, and touchscreen navigation. You’ll also find Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability, but the cartoony interface is clearly pulled from lesser Hyundai models.
If there is anything lacking, it could be the technology and the rear seat area. However, that said, the G70 more than makes up for those with the amount of luxury offered at a fraction of the cost. The Genesis G70 is absolutely a great luxury sedan for the family.
