You’re probably not the only one that’s confused. Chevy is still selling the “old” 2021 Silverado model in 2022 right alongside the new version of the Silverado truck. On the Chevy website, it’s called the LTD, for Limited trim, and though it may not have the fancy grille or huge touchscreen of the 2022, the LTD is the same truck underneath.

What is the Silverado LTD trim?

The 2022 Silverado LTD, or Limited, is the un-updated 2022 truck. Let’s call it a continuation of the 2021 version, however, it still uses much of the same sheet metal and platform of the 2022. It is sold as a 2022 model, but if you parked it next to a 2021, it would be hard to tell the difference. It has most of the options, and the same engines, as the 2021, according to GMAuthority. Chevy said it would stop production on it when 2022 production ramped up.

This is not GM’s first time selling a Limited or LTD trim. Some may remember the last year of the 204 Impala, which was also only available as in Limited trim. Chevy targeted that car primarily at fleets, however. GMC calls its version of the non-updated truck the Sierra Limited.

The big differences in the new 2022 Silverado include a new grille and a new interior. The new interior on all trims includes a new horizontal instrument panel and a new center console with a 13.4-inch touchscreen. Under the new grille, running lights now do a funky animated walk-up dance when you approach with the key. Also, GM’s Super Cruise is available on High Country luxury version.

Of course, Chevy did add new trim packages for 2022, including the new flagship ZR2 version, which brings new off-road capability.

The LTD starts at $30,400, which is $4,200 less than the starting price of the new 2022 Silverado. You can order it with the 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, a 5.3 liter V8 or the might 6.2 liter V8, but only on the Trail Boss trim. The big upgrades include the Z71 off-road package, a few various work truck packages, and the trailering package. It comes in eight trim levels that range from basic to luxury, and it tops out with the High Country which starts at $59,559 with the 5.3-liter V8.

You can order the LTD with the 3.0-liter Duramax turbo-diesel, which makes 460 lb.-ft of torque.

Ram, too, sells an old truck new

Chevy isn’t the only one using up all of its spare parts to build new trucks, Ram is, too. Ram sells new the 2022 1500 Classic for $30,235, which is a brand-new version of the pre-2019 updated truck. The fourth-generation 1500 truck is heavier and has fewer options, than the newer trucks but it’s designed to appeal to cost-conscious buyers who don’t need the newest truck in their garage, but still need a sturdy truck.
