He ended up buying something truly special for Jen’s birthday: a shiny Porsche 911.
A sports car with a triple-digit price tag was especially an extravagant choice for Jennifer, who hasn’t driven a car in over 25 years. However, she did say that she would use the car because of its stylish exterior and small size. If you have the money, the Porsche 911 would make an excellent gift for anyone (including yourself).
Performance
The Porsche 911 was completely redesigned for 2020, with a wider body and the removal of the base manual transmission. Its rear engine is a 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat-six capable of an astounding 443 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque.
The Carrera S features rear-wheel drive, while the Carrera 4S has all-wheel drive. The eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is now the standard in all base models, but the automaker did say that a manual seven-speed would be available in the future.
Like every Porsche, its handling and cornering prowess is unmatched. It has powerful brakes and an excellent acceleration rate, 0 to 60 in just 3.5 seconds. As is expected, its enhanced suspension gives drivers the smoothest ride possible. Even new or inexperienced drivers (looking at you Miss Lopez) should have no problem getting used to the road in this car.
Interior design
Drivers can choose between a coupe trim or a convertible, like Lopez’s new ride. The inside is just as luxurious as the outside of the vehicle. Its front seats are made of high-quality leather and can be heated and ventilated. Sports seats are also available, as well as a heated and sports steering wheel. There’s also a large cupholder just behind the transmission.
Sadly, the same cannot be said for the rear seats, which are too cramped to accommodate passengers with the same level of comfort as the one riding shotgun. There’s not a lot of cargo space either, but you can easily use the passenger seats to store more small items. If you’re a single rider with a small amount of luggage, it’s not that big of a dealbreaker.
Infotainment
As expected of a luxury sports car, the Porsche 911 comes with some good interior technology. The infotainment system is known as the Porsche Communication Management system. It has a nice 10.9-inch touch screen that can recognize handwriting as well as voice commands.
Other features include Apple CarPlay, satellite or internet radio, eight-speaker audio system, a GPS navigation system and two USB ports for charging smart devices. Optional upgrades include a 12-speaker Bose audio system and a Track Precision app for tracking your driving patterns.
Safety features
Base safety features on the Porsche 911 are pretty standard. Parking sensors, pedestrian detectors, automatic emergency brakes, collision warning, and a rearview camera are all included.
Additional features like cruise control, night vision mode, lane keep or change assistance, an all-around view camera, and traffic sign recognition can also be added. The previous model had some of the best crash test ratings of any Porsche. This means we can most likely expect the same from this one.
Price
The Porsche 911 is both a perfect gift for new and seasoned drivers alike. But, its price will hold the majority of consumers back. The latest Porsche 911 Carrera S costs $114,250. Meanwhile, the Carrera 4S is a little higher at $121,650. However, if you happen to have a lot of money saved up from playing professional baseball like Alex Rodriguez, this won’t be an issue.
