The new Hummer EV is about to go crab! Literally, the 2022 GMC Hummer EV was shown in a teaser video with its new crab mode. Crabs don’t usually come to mind when you think about off-roaders, but check out what the crab mode can do.

In a teaser video released by GMC, they confirmed that the Electric Hummer will be revealed on October 20th, which is right around the corner. Soon we will get our eyes on this new, massive electric SUV.
Also, the video showed the Hummer crawling sideways like a crab. The video even features a crab that could be famous by now. Anyways, the tires can move diagonally in a crabwalk like style. The 4×4 system enables this feature.
Duncan Aldred, the Global Vice President of Buick GMC, shared that this gives you more unparalleled maneuverability when you’re in challenging terrain. Unfortunately, this leaves us with more questions than answers.
You only see the tires turning to the left as a crab walks by. But we can speculate that the side to side movement will help the Hummer EV climb around challenges that block its path. Perhaps the crab mode can help you by sliding into a parallel parking spot to the side as well.
What else do we know about the 2022 GMC Hummer EV?
The word on the street suggests that the 2022 Hummer EV will be available with three different electric motors. We could possibly see a rear-wheel-drive base model, while higher trim options are set up with 4×4 drive features and a faster acceleration.
In fact, the hummer EV could be so fast that GMC suggests it will be able to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3 seconds. Plus, according to CarandDriver, the 2022 GMC Electric Hummer will provide 1,000 hp and 11,500 lb-ft of torque. While how the torque is calculated could be off, it should be a strong hauler either way.
To be competitive against electric truck rivals like the Tesla Cybertruck and Rivian R1T, the Hummer EV will need the ability to tow between 7,500 and 11,000 lb. But currently, the non-electric Ford F-150 can tow up to 13,200 lb.
The Hummer EV will have an 800-volt architecture with 350-kWh fast-charging capability. Based on this, speculations suggest that the Hummer could have a driving range of up to 400 miles. This matches the Jeep Wrangler 4xe’s range.
When can I get a 2022 Hummer EV?
The Hummer EV was supposed to debut on May 20th, until the Coronavirus outbreak (COVD-19) caused a few delays. Now preorders are expected to begin around October 20th, when the SUV is revealed.
Pricing for the GMC Hummer EV is expected to start around $70,000 because it’s a luxury vehicle with off-roading capabilities. Also, the first deliveries are expected to be made this fall, so you might not have to wait much longer. This is unlike the new Ford Bronco, which came out with an 18-month waiting list.
