Maintaining road safety is one of the most essential aspects of operating a vehicle. This is especially the case for people with kids in the car. Recently, one West Virginia woman got into trouble after falling asleep at the wheel and evading a traffic stop. The worst part is the way she endangered the lives of three kids.

Evading a traffic stop is one thing, but risking the lives of kids is another

According to WDTV CBS 5, a Harrison County Sheriff’s Office officer recently noticed a car parked on the road. Naturally, the officer approached the vehicle to investigate and spotted a woman sleeping with her head on the steering wheel. Additionally, there were three kids “crawling around in the vehicle.” Worse, there were not enough car seats, and the ones present were in disrepair.

Upon asking the woman why she was sleeping in the car, she said she had run out of gas. Later, more police officers arrived and asked her to step out of the vehicle. She reportedly grabbed one of the kids and said, “The devil is a liar.” This was when she took off, leaving the police officers to try and conduct a traffic stop while chasing her. Notably, the police also noticed illicit substances in the vehicle while talking to her.

As she tried to run from the traffic stop, the woman was seen going in and out of lanes and disrupting traffic. Of course, her kids were in the car without safe car seats during the police chase. She continued to hold one of the three kids as she drove. Eventually, they were able to stop the woman. Regarding the drugs in the car, there was a white substance all over the vehicle that tested positive for fentanyl. They also found loaded guns in the car.

After the traffic stop and subsequent arrest, she was charged with three counts of child neglect and one count of fleeing with reckless regard to public safety. Her bond is $500,000.
