Watch: Suspect Bails From Stolen Car and Hides Under a Truck… With Her Kitten

When you are rolling around in a freshly stolen vehicle, your main priority should probably be flying under the radar. What you absolutely should not do is bring your pet along for the felony joyride. Unfortunately, one duo didn’t get that memo, leading to one of the most bizarre police foot chases we have ever seen.

The chaotic scene unfolded around 2:30 a.m. on March 15th, when local deputies spotted a recently stolen vehicle cruising down Golden Given Road. As officers moved in to intercept the hot car, the occupants decided they weren’t going down without a fight.

As soon as the vehicle stopped, the male driver immediately bailed out and made a run for it. His attempt at freedom was incredibly short-lived, as deputies quickly ran him down and took him into custody following a brief foot pursuit. But while the driver was being cuffed, the female passenger decided to initiate her own escape plan.

The Purr-fect Getaway?

Instead of just running, the woman grabbed her kitten from inside the stolen ride and bolted into the darkness. Deputies immediately launched a search for the fleeing passenger, eventually locating her wedged underneath a parked pickup truck in a desperate attempt to hide.

What followed was an incredibly surreal bodycam standoff. As officers surrounded the truck and commanded her to crawl out and drop the animal, the suspect adamantly refused to let go of the cat. She pleaded with the deputies, explaining that she was trying to surrender but was terrified that if she let go of the kitten, it would run off into the night.

The Aftermath

Eventually, the standoff ended safely. The woman crawled out from under the chassis and was placed in handcuffs. Both she and the driver were hit with a laundry list of charges, including possession of a stolen vehicle and obstructing law enforcement. To make matters worse, both suspects also had several active, outstanding warrants at the time of their arrest.

As for the real victim in all of this, the innocent kitten, it was safely recovered by the deputies. The feline accomplice was initially handed over to a local animal hospital for a checkup before being transferred to the care of the Humane Society.
