‘Our Biggest Cheerleader,’ Volleyball Team Buys School Custodian a Car
When a Texas volleyball team discovered their beloved custodian didn’t have a car, the teens chose kindness. The way these girls paid it forward is sure to bring a smile to your face.
The Lady Braves high school volleyball team are quick to call school custodian Abel Rodriguez “our biggest cheerleader.” Addee Kuenstler adds, “He supports us through everything.”
The athletes heard Rodriguez was struggling with transportation issues, even staying at school until 1 a.m. one night while waiting for a ride. So they decided to support their biggest fan.
The teenagers set up a GoFundMe, spread the word, and raised $3,000 in one day. As they continued to campaign, they ended up with $9,000. Group 1 Ford of Rockwall offered the team a car.
But the teens still worried it would be a burden on the custodian. So they turned to the J.R. Arey State Farm Agency, which chipped in with insurance coverage and some gas money.
One afternoon, they called Rodriguez over the PA system, requesting his help with an emergency outdoors. Instead of a mess, he found more than 100 students chanting his name for the big car reveal. His response? “I’m so happy with the community…I love you forever, guys.”
