According to Car and Driver, the 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 will be available for American consumers. The 2022 model year is exclusive to Europe. The ID.4 has been a success. It has proven that Volkswagen can produce a competitive electric vehicle. This is especially important for the automaker because of VW’s infamous history of producing carbon emissions.

Volkswagen was at the center of Dieselgate, a scandal where the automaker misrepresented its carbon emissions. Volkswagen showed no interest in reducing carbon emissions years ago. Today, the German automaker seems to be at the forefront of the effort to transition from a market dominated by gas-powered vehicles, to an industry where there are just as many (if not more) EVs.

The brand has even developed its own charging network in the United States called Electrify America. Volkswagen has already spent billions of dollars on its Electrify America subsidiary. Why? Simple, the electric vehicle market is growing substantially. Globally, EVs are responsible for more of the total new vehicle market share than ever before. Forbes claims that “battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales will reach a market share of 60% in Western Europe by 2030.

The automaker that produces the most popular electric vehicle in Europe in the years to come will experience extreme financial gain as EVs become more popular. The Volkswagen ID.4 has as much of a chance as any vehicle to become the most popular EV in Europe consistently.

The VW ID.4’s greatest competition in America may be the popular Ford Mustang Mach-E. The 2021 model year has won multiple awards from automotive publications and the 2022 model year has only improved. Will Volkswagen’s electric SUV conquer Europe, America, and the world?
