[Video] Police car flips over after distracted driver crosses double yellow line

On average, about nine people die every day on American streets due to distracted driving. It’s a serious issue. Few know that better now than a Michigan police officer after a distracted driver crossed a double yellow line and struck her patrol car head-on.
A distracted driver swerved to avoid a stopped car and slammed right into a police car with a junior cop at the wheel
A dash cam video shows a police car cruising a small country road. It’s divided by a double yellow line, the easily identifiable, don’t-even-think-about-it reminder to stay in your lane. However, that didn’t stop a black Nissan Murano from jumping into oncoming traffic just in time to hit a police car and send it tumbling.
The officer, a young Michigan-based sheriff’s deputy, was reportedly only on solo patrol duty for one week at the time of the incident. Talk about starting things off on a positive note. In the video, the police car crosses two stationary cars, a red Hyundai sedan and a silver Genesis. There’s a break in the double yellow boundary and a road off to the police officer’s right, suggesting the red Hyundai intended to turn.
However, the dash cam video plainly shows the Murano heading for the silver sedan with little indication of slowing down. With no time to spare, the distracted driver in the Nissan SUV notices the stopped traffic ahead and swerves to avoid the sedan. But rather than braking hard and turning onto the shoulder, the driver crossed the double yellow lines. As luck would have it, the panic move put the Murano on a collision course with the police car.
At the last second, the officer attempts to swerve around the incoming SUV. No luck. The Murano crashes into the police cruiser at an angle. A moment later, the dash cam captures the police car rolling end over end.
Unfortunately for the relatively new cop, distracted driving is a serious concern on today’s roads. The video shows the Nissan Murano making little to no attempt to slow as it approached the stationary cars, suggesting the driver’s attention was elsewhere.
