Everybody knows that vehicle sales fluctuate as time goes on. However, many of the best new cars on the market are struggling, which causes concern. Recently, car expert Doug DeMuro listed six automakers that he thinks aren’t long for this world. Of course, he includes quite a few Stellantis cars and brands on this list, as the automotive giant has had a number of issues as of late. Notably, auto mechanics also don’t like some of these automakers.

Alfa Romeo is the first automaker Doug DeMuro says may not be around for long despite making some of the best new cars. In his video, Doug mentions that the automaker’s vehicles are a bit expensive for what they are. He also highlights how some of the brand’s more popular vehicles have been discontinued.

According to Good Car Bad Car, the automaker hasn’t been able to sell even 1,000 units in a single month this year in the U.S. In total, only 6,829 people drove home in a new Alfa Romeo model this year. Still, Doug says if the brand had better leadership, it would probably be able to compete with the likes of BMW. Notably, its cars fall under the Stellantis umbrella.

He says Buick vehicles may not be in the U.S. much longer

The next automaker Doug DuMuro lists is Buick. Of course, Buick is a legendary automaker that leans towards the luxury category. Sadly, its glory days are long gone, and Buick vehicles aren’t that interesting compared to many of the best new cars on the market. So far, 137,180 Buick vehicles have been sold in stateside this year. However, Doug mentions Buick vehicles’ popularity in other countries, namely China.

Chrysler is struggling

As mentioned, Doug DuMuro’s video listed quite a few Stellantis cars. He seems pretty confident that Chrysler’s days are numbered. This is partly the case because the company has such slim vehicle pickings. Notably, it only has the Pacifica, Pacifica Hybrid, and the 300. The brand has only sold 97,057 units this year. This number is a far cry from most of the best new cars from popular automakers. Auto mechanics also see a lot of Chrysler vehicles.

Fiat is also on the list

Fiat cars also fall under the Stellantis umbrella, but Doug DuMuro believes they aren’t long for this world. Notably, he thinks brands that only focus on these types of cars have a hard time succeeding. Fiat has dismal sales in the U.S., with some months being double-digit low. It has sold a measly 787 units in 2024.

Infiniti is also on the list

Infiniti has struggled quite a bit over the last several years. Of course, this is Nissan’s luxury offshoot, but it falls behind most of the best new cars in the category. Specifically, they are a bit behind the times. As Doug DuMuro puts it, the vehicles are not very compelling as Nissan isn’t investing much into the brand. The automaker has sold about 42,566 units in the U.S. this year. Of course, Nissan has also struggled with vehicle sales, but not like this.

Mitsubishi isn’t a surprise

For most, Mitsubishi is no longer in the conversation regarding exciting vehicles. Mitsubishi has a few options, but its cars aren’t prevalent on the street. Doug DuMuro highlights how even the Mitsubishi Outlander is more of a second or third choice for buyers. Like many, Doug finds it surprising that the brand has lasted this long in the States. The automaker sold 82,722 units in the U.S. this year. Notably, auto mechanics also don’t love Mitsubishi vehicles.

Bonus: Mini has a problem with vehicle sales despite making some of the best new cars in its catagory

Doug didn’t say Mini would for sure go out of business in the U.S., but he does highlight the struggles the company has had. In many ways, its issues are similar to those of Fiat. So far, 17,523 people have bought a Mini in the U.S. this year.
