Want a V6 Truck? These 3 Mid-Size Pickups Make It Standard

Although gas prices only appear to be going up, some truck buyers want the power of six cylinders, even in their mid-size pickup. If you find yourself in that camp, there are three distinct mid-size trucks that come with a standard V6 engine. Because of that, you do not have to pay extra in order to get the power you desire from your vehicle. These trucks come from manufacturers like Honda and Jeep, so you should be able to find the proper pick for your specific situation.

Which mid-size trucks have a standard V6 engine?

Multiple trucks in 2022 come with a standard V6, these include the Nissan Frontier, Honda Ridgeline, and Jeep Gladiator. Where some mid-size trucks will charge extra for a V6, if they offer them at all, that is not the case for these models. Now, the Frontier, Ridgeline, and Gladiator are all very different trucks. So, it’s important to determine which is right for you.

The 2022 Jeep Gladiator is essentially a truck version of the Wrangler. And because of that, it is geared more toward off-road use. Meanwhile, the 2022 Honda Ridgeline is unibody which means that it’s focused on comfort and on-road situations. What these pickups all share in common is their standard six-cylinder powertrains.

Each Jeep Gladiator comes equipped with the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine. This engine has been proven over the years to be fairly reliable. It offers 285 horsepower and 260 pound-ft of torque. Plus, it can come equipped with a manual transmission.

The gas V6 is not the only engine featured in the 2022 Gladiator. If you are interested in the power of diesel, you can get that in form of the 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 engine. Granted, it does not come as standard fare on this mid-size truck.

The 2022 Honda Ridgeline pickup truck has a standard V6

While the Honda Ridgeline has never been the most popular mid-size pickup, it does have a standard V6 engine. Paired with the number of features it has, according to Consumer Reports, it is one of the best mid-size trucks on the road.

The Ridgeline will not be for everyone, though. As a unibody truck, it is not as capable as some of the competition. If you are looking for something that can handle light adventuring or for getting around town, the 2022 Honda Ridgeline could be it.

The 2022 Nissan Frontier now has just one engine option

For the longest time, the Nissan Frontier went with no major updates. But after 2021, that all changed. Now, the 2022 Nissan Frontier comes standard with a 3.8-liter V6 engine. This engine currently makes best-in-class horsepower with 310 hp and 281 lb-ft of torque.

Perhaps the major downside of this engine shakeup, is that the Frontier is no longer available with a manual transmission. So, while you can get a mid-size truck that tows up to 6,720 lbs, do not expect to shift your own gears. And that may be a disappointment to some.
