One United States Postal worker went way beyond her typical mail carrying duties by rescuing a couple. They were trapped in a burning home. She used her mail truck to help two people escape rising flames. The mail carrier delivered a rescue in the nick of time.

USPS carrier uses mail truck to rescue people from a burning home

A United States Postal Service driver in Union County, Indiana is being recognized as a hero. She used her truck to help two people escape from a house fire with her mail truck.

Instead of only transferring letters and packages, this mail lady delivered life-saving rescues. This is pretty impressive. My mail lady is known for rolling her eyes at my loud beagle.

Anette Smith was driving along her usual route when she saw smoke emerging from a home. She passes every day and it’s located on State Line Road. A neighbor suggested that she pull up to the house to help two people escape. They were calling for help from the second floor.

As Smith approached the home, she became blinded by smoke. She couldn’t see the people upstairs and she didn’t know if they could see her as she threw it in reverse. Then she heard thuds on the roof of the mail truck as people jumped from the second story.

According to WHIO, the thuds let Smith know that the people escaped. Then she could drive the mail truck to safety as they waited for firefighters to arrive.

The people were taken to a local hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation and other minor injuries. Also, the mail truck didn’t even get a scratch.
