Used SUVs Under $10,000 Recommended By Consumer Reports

SUVs are notoriously great options if you are looking for a family vehicle, but you want to skip out on the soccer mom minivans. Whether you are looking for your first vehicle, a new way to get your kids to school, or just like having something higher off the ground than your standard car, buying a used SUV can be an affordable option. According to Consumer Reports, these are the best-used options you can find without sacrificing reliability.

Buying a used SUV is a great option

There are so many reasons to buy a used SUV. Sure, you can probably afford something like a Porsche Cayenne once it’s depreciated enough, but chances are you want something that’s just as affordable to maintain as it is to purchase. The worst thing you can do is buy a cheap car that you can’t afford to fix when something breaks.

There are plenty of reliable options for an SUV that you can find for around or under $10,000 that will keep running for years to come with just some simple maintenance. Although there are some steps that you should take to ensure the vehicle you are looking at is in good mechanical condition, you don’t have to buy a total lemon just to get a good deal. There are some cheap SUVs that are still great cars, they have just depreciated over time as almost all cars do.

The 2005 Toyota Highlander

It isn’t the only Toyota SUV to make the list, but that could just be a coincidence. The new 2020 Toyota Highlander is an excellent option for a full-sized SUV, and you can find them for around $6,000 by buying one that’s a few generations older. A 2005 Toyota Highlander might not be on the top of your list when considering cars to test drive, but for the price and what it has to offer, maybe it should be. The style may be outdated, but the comfort and space it provides aren’t. According to Consumer Reports, this is the used SUV worth your time and money.

The Consumer Reports favorite

The Toyota RAV4 is well-loved regardless of year or generation, so it doesn’t surprise us to see that the 2008 model year made the list. It might not be the most modern-looking or have the latest and greatest features, but it does offer a V6 engine that is rather responsive. You can expect a comfortable ride, plenty of space, and a whole lot of practicality, all for around $7,000 even in good condition.
