Unlicensed Arizona Driver Faces Manslaughter After Deadly Crash At Double the Speed Limit

Distracted driving and excessive speed are a lethal combination, especially when inexperienced motorists get behind the wheel. A recent tragedy in Arizona has once again proven the awful consequences of making reckless choices on public roads, as an 18-year-old is now facing severe manslaughter charges following a fatal intersection crash.

The devastating incident recently took place in Central Phoenix near the busy intersection of 3rd Avenue and Indian School Road. According to authorities and local news outlets, an 18-year-old driver, identified by police as Selene Garcia Telix, violently blew through a red light and slammed into another vehicle.

The sheer speed of the collision was staggering. Detectives stated that the teenager was traveling at an incredible 77 miles per hour at the moment of impact. That speed is more than 40 mph over the posted legal limit of 35 for that specific zone.

Tragically, the extreme force of the high-speed crash proved fatal for the other motorist. While Telix managed to escape the wreckage with only slight injuries, the man driving the car she struck succumbed to his injuries and died.

“Never Having a Driver’s License”

As the police investigation continued, the details surrounding the crash worsened. Following the collision, Telix admitted to police that she was actively talking on the phone at the exact time she blew through the red light.

To make matters worse, she confessed she did not even legally belong on the road in the first place, admitting to “never having a driver’s license”.

Due to the egregious nature of the incident, combining the extreme speed, distracted driving, and operating a vehicle without a license, the teenager is now facing serious manslaughter charges for the deadly crash.
