Additionally, there is a wide array of options, each of which is a superb choice for the right buyer. US News and Consumer Reports compact truck rankings are mostly similar, except for one model. US News and Consumer Reports disagree on one compact truck, the 2022 Chevy Colorado.

For US News‘ list of best compact trucks, the 2022 Chevy Colorado is in second place. The only truck to finish ahead of it is the Honda Ridgeline. However, there’s a little more to the story. Chevy’s offering is listed at number two, but so are the Ford Ranger and GMC Canyon. Moreover, we’d expect the Canyon to tie with its corporate sibling, as it and the Colorado are virtually the same vehicles.

However, the pair tied with the Ranger for second place, each with an overall score of 7.7./10. Both start at just over $25,000, but the Colorado is slightly more affordable. The publication loves the Chevy truck’s class-leading tow rating, smooth ride, excellent handling, and spacious front seats. Additionally, the reviewer noted the infotainment system is exceptionally user-friendly and easy to use.

On the flip side, US News doesn’t like the Colorado’s base engine, which it calls “underwhelming.” Next, the interior cabin isn’t of outstanding quality, making the interior feel cheap and outdated. Lastly, there are very few driver assistance features that are imperative in modern vehicles.

Although US News calls Chevy’s compact truck the second-best model overall, Consumer Reports has it closer to the bottom. Tied with the GMC Canyon, the Colorado is ranked seventh, with only the Jeep Gladiator behind it. Although CR enjoyed most of the same things as US News, it noted many more complaints than the other reviewer.

Most importantly, CR calls the Colorado’s ride “stiff and choppy,” which is the polar opposite of what US News said. Additionally, the two agree on the interior quality, which is poor. However, CR pointed out that the cloth seats are uncomfortable, lack a range of adjustments, and put the driver in an awkward position. Finally, the optional 3.6-liter V6 doesn’t offer enough torque to make it worth your while.

Lastly, CR heavily weighs reliability in its rankings, which pushes the 2022 Chevy Colorado down. It received nearly the worst possible score for predicted reliability based on previous model years. For the most recent five model years, owners have experienced transmission, brakes, body, electronics, fuel system, and other significant problems.

Experts disagree on the 2022 Chevy Colorado

In conclusion, the 2022 Chevy Colorado is an excellent compact pickup truck. However, not everyone agrees on how great it is. US News believes only the Honda Ridgeline is a better option than it in the segment.

Contrarily, Consumer Reports thinks it’s nearly the worst compact truck, only beating the Jeep Gladiator. CR weighs historical reliability heavily, which undoubtedly plays a factor, but that doesn’t explain why both experts gave opposite descriptions of the ride quality.
