These Popular New Minivans Got the Exact Same Consumer Reports Score

The 2022 Kia Carnival and 2021 Toyota Sienna got the exact same overall score from Consumer Reports. Both popular new minivans have been well-received by the public. The real question is, which is the better minivan?

The 2022 Kia Carnival MPV or “multi-purpose vehicle” is changing what it means to be a minivan. Kia insists that the Carnival is closer to an SUV than it is to a minivan, and it’s tough to argue with ’em looking at its design. The 2022 Kia Carnival gets 19 miles per gallon in the city and 26 miles per gallon on the highway.

Its 3.5-liter V6 engine makes 290 horsepower. The popular new minivan is no speed demon, but it’s got enough giddyup to keep most van drivers happy. Its interior features two different LCD panels. There’s a 12.3-inch LCD panel for the infotainment system and another for the instrument cluster.

The 2022 Kia Carnival MPV comes standard with hands-free power-sliding rear doors. It starts at an affordable $32,100. Many of its best features, such as the twin rear-screen entertainment system, are reserved for its $47,275 SX Prestige trim. Consumer Reports gave the 2022 Kia Carnival an overall score of 77/100 and its recommendation.

The 2021 Toyota Sienna exists in a lane of its own. The popular new minivan may not compete with the Kia Carnival MPV and Honda Odyssey for the best family minivan position, but it has other strengths. The 2021 Toyota Sienna doesn’t have as many entertaining features, but it is very safe and affordable to own.

The Toyota Sienna starts at $34,460. It gets 36 miles per gallon in the city and 36 miles per gallon on the highway. The Sienna is one of the most fuel-efficient minivans on the market. It uses a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine coupled with dual motors to make a total of 243 horsepower with its hybrid powertrain.

The 2021 Toyota Sienna also received an overall score of 77/100 from Consumer Reports and is a recommended vehicle as well. The 2022 Kia Carnival and 2021 Toyota Sienna are both great minivans, but they excel at different things.

The 2022 Kia Carnival is one of the best family minivans on the market. The 2021 Toyota Sienna is one of the most cost-effective vans, thanks to its fuel economy. Both vans received the same overall score on Consumer Reports, however, one outperformed the other in one crucial area.

The Kia Carnival got an 89/100 on Consumer Reports’ road test score. The Toyota Sienna only got an 81/100. This doesn’t mean that the Carnival is the better van, but according to Consumer Reports, it drives better and has a better ride quality.
