A speeding red Hyundai Tucson struck two cyclists on Harlem Street and dragged them down the road before crashing into a New York Police Department cruiser and a tractor-trailer truck. The incident led to the death of one person and injured four others on Thursday.
Footage of the incident highlights the severity of the crash as sparks flew when the Tucson dragged the cyclists down the road at around 8:05 p.m.
Pedestrians strolling near West 125th Street and Frederick Douglass Boulevard can be seen jumping out of the way as the 49-year-old driver showed no sign of lifting his foot off the gas pedal.
The two cyclists, aged 33 and 28, were left on the ground in the bus lane. The New York Post quoted eyewitnesses.

One person who works nearby said, “We saw the bike over there. The black [cyclist] was moving a little bit, his head was bleeding like crazy, but the Spanish guy looked like he was sleeping.
“[The driver] looked like he was drunk or something. You cannot speed like that.”
The Driver of the Hyundai Tucson Gets Arrested
Another witness, identified as C.B., stated, “I seen two men laying there, they can’t move, face down, those were the two people who got hit on their bikes and dragged by the car.”
“He hit the cars and he ran over people. One guy went up in the air, but the other two were dragged, until the car hit a police car. Then his car swerved over to this side, where a truck was, and that’s what stopped him.”
“We came in from Minnesota for a funeral,” C.B. added. “And last night we almost got taken out.”
The driver of the Tucson did not appear to be injured and was eventually arrested. However, the charges have yet to be announced.
Authorities stated that both cyclists, who were in critical condition, were rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, the 28-year-old cyclist was later pronounced dead.
