Trump tariffs don’t even matter to Toyota or Honda
There have been rumors about Toyota and Honda closing plants in the United States due to Trump tariffs. However, don’t listen to those false claims. Workers in Ohio, Kentucky, Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Georgia can relax.
Toyota and Honda confront rumors about Trump Tariffs and closing plants
Toyota and Honda own plants in Kentucky, Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Ohio, and Georgia. Closing those plants could send thousands of workers home without pay and impact local economies.
When Trump tariffs were announced, rumors about the automakers closing plants in the United States and Canada spread across the internet like wildfires. According to Snopes, a Trump failure meme was seen on Reddit, Threads, and Instagram.
It said that “Honda and Toyota are preparing to execute plans to shut down assembly lines in the US because they’re unwilling to pay a 25% premium on materials. Tens of thousands of workers in plants in Ohio, Kentucky, Alabama, Tennessee, and Georgia, will be sent home without pay. The effect on those workers and the communities they shop in will make the price of eggs seem completely insignificant.”
Representatives have cleared things up about this information by sharing that it’s false. Honda and Toyota have not announced that they will be closing manufacturing plants in America. The information didn’t come from the automakers and it’s inaccurate.
David Adams, the president of the Global Automakers of Canada Trade Group did mention that tariffs only serve to increase costs, hinder trade, impact economic growth, and hurt consumers, and workers.
Perhaps this pours gasoline on the fire related to rumors regarding plant closures. But unless information comes directly from Toyota or Honda then take it with a grain of salt.
