The 2022 Toyota Tundra release is shaking things up for the full-size truck vehicle class. The Ram 1500 pickup truck has reigned supreme as the best full-size pickup truck for years. Its only real competition has been the Ford F-150. How does the new 2022 Toyota Tundra stack up against the class-leading 2021 Ram 1500?

The 2022 Toyota Tundra release means trouble for the competition

The 2022 Toyota Tundra is groundbreaking. The Tundra has not been redesigned in over a decade. It has finally got a refresh and is ready to compete.

The Toyota Tundra has long been dominated by the likes of Ram and Ford pickup trucks. Thanks to its lack of a redesign, it has struggled to move up in rankings for years. Now, the Toyota Tundra has a new powertrain, features, and specs.

The 2022 Toyota Tundra used a Toyota 3.5-liter twin-turbo i-FORCE engine that makes 389 horsepower. It has a towing capacity of 12,000 pounds. The new Tundra’s gas mileage has yet to be released. It is expected to start at about $35,000.

The new Toyota Tundra also comes in a hybrid option that makes a whopping 437 horsepower using a 3.5-liter V6 i-FORCE MAX engine and dual electric motors. The Tundra that has long been criticized for being uncomfortable now features a resigned cabin that can include a panoramic moonroof. The cabin also got a significant tech upgrade with a massive 14-inch audio multimedia touchscreen infotainment system. It’s even got some cool easter eggs to look forward to.

The 2021 Ram 1500 is king of the hill

The Ram 1500 is no stranger to 1st place rankings. According to MotorTrend, the 2021 Ram 1500 is the best full-size pickup truck to buy in 2021. Ram has found the perfect balance of power and comfort for its full-size pickup truck.

The 2021 Ram 1500 makes 305 horsepower using its 3.6-liter V6 engine. It has a towing capacity of 7,740 pounds. The 2021 Ram 1500 gets 20 miles per gallon in the city and 25 miles per gallon on the highway. It starts at $32,795. The Ram has been the undisputed best full-size pickup truck for years, but the Tundra is far from the same truck that it was just a short year ago.

Will the Ram 1500 lose sales after the upcoming 2022 Toyota Tundra release?

It’s good to be at the top, but comfort can also bring complacency. The 2021 Ram 1500 is the best full-size truck out now, but after the 2022 Toyota Tundra release, that may not be the case anymore. The 2022 Toyota Tundra could quickly climb in full-size truck rankings.

The 2022 Toyota Tundra can tow more than the current Ram 1500. It has a more impressive powertrain and a dynamic hybrid option. Toyota gave the Tundra’s cabin a fresh new look that rivals the Ram 1500 cabin. It sounds blasphemous, but the new Tundra may just be the better truck. Ram better watch its back. There’s a new full-size truck in town.
