Because truck driving is such an important industry, it’s always concerning when a crash makes the news. Sadly, one happened recently in Florida, and the situation was so intense that officials had to shut down the interstate. There was also a lengthy cleanup process following the accident with the two trucks.

This truck crash shut down the interstate for quite a while

According to WFLA, there was a truck crash involving two semis on March 5th in North Port, Florida. This took place on I-75 near the 174-mile marker. The report says that a crane semi-truck was approaching an overpass when it collided with a tractor-trailer hauling a flatbed trailer. Notably, this happened on an uphill grade, and both trucks are said to have had clear lines of sight. The crane semi-truck was traveling at a low rate of speed at the time.

This truck crash saw the crane semi-rotate and then flip onto its side, which blocked all southbound lanes on that portion of the interstate. Things didn’t end there, as another vehicle then crashed into the debris left by the accident. Luckily, there were no life-threatening injuries reported from the scene. Still, this must have been a terrifying experience for both truck-driving professionals.

As trucking news revolving around crashes always shows, the story didn’t end with the accident. In addition to closing down the interstate, there was also the need for an extensive cleanup. The truck crash left behind 60 gallons of “mixed petroleum products.” This includes things like hydraulic oil, diesel, and regular gas that spilled onto the interstate. The latest local reporting hasn’t mentioned this part of the I-75 reopening yet.
