One of the harsh realities of driving is that car wrecks happen daily. Some are minor, but others either cause injuries or even cause fatalities. Recently, one driver in Utah tried to evade a traffic stop and caused a series of car accidents after crashing into a truck driver. Luckily, there were no fatalities on the scene.

Car wrecks are common, but they don’t often involve wrong-way drivers who try to evade traffic stops

According to KSL TV, a police officer observed a 2006 Cadillac going the wrong way on I-15 on February 16 at around 2:16 am. The officer then tried to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, which the driver ran from. This happened near mile marker 88.5 northbound, and the driver was going 90 mph when he sped off. At this time, the trooper attempted a PIT maneuver, which did not work.

The officer continued trying to make the traffic stop. At points, the man behind the wheel reached speeds of around 120 miles per hour, which is a massive safety issue. Things worsened when he swerved and crashed into a Freightliner semi-truck around mile marker 98. This caused the Cadillac to hit the median and roll over. Regarding the semi-truck, the report says it hit a median and stopped.

Things didn’t end there. A 2014 Toyota hit the the semi-truck. After that, another semi-truck crashed into the trailer of the other one involved in the car wreck. Things were so bad that the trailer split in half. Additionally, the second semi-truck hit the rear of the Toyota. Following the traffic stop, the wrong-way driver had to be extracted from his Cadillac. In the end, two women from the Toyota, as well as the Cadillac driver, had to go to the hospital. Both lanes of the interstate were shut down for more than two hours. It’s unclear what led to the original driver going the wrong way.
