High-speed police chases are among the most dangerous things that can happen on the road. Not only can they cause car wrecks, but they can also lead to several people being hospitalized. Recently, a driver in North Carolina committed car theft and tried evading a traffic stop. Now, several people have severe injuries as a result.

The driver caused a ton of mayhem by trying to evade a traffic stop after committing car theft

According to WRAL News, Jamere Jones, 18, recently committed car theft on a 1999 Buick in Roxboro, North Carolina. Of course, someone called the police, and they later tried to make a traffic stop on the stolen vehicle. Sadly, the driver refused to stop, prompting a high-speed police chase. The report says there were times during the chase when the young driver reached 60 miles per hour in zones that only allowed for 20 MPH.

Things worsened as the police officers continued to attempt the traffic stop. Sadly, Jamere ran a red light at some point during the pursuit, and a truck and two other vehicles collided with it. Due to the nature of the crash, the 18-year-old driver and two 16-year-old passengers were unable to exit the now-totaled vehicle. Of course, the authorities had to call emergency responders to the scene.

Following the traffic stop, emergency responders transported five people to the hospital. Luckily, they only had minor injuries. The driver, on the other hand, had a fractured pelvis. Sadly, the report also says that one person needed to be airlifted to the hospital due to critical injuries. The driver is currently being charged with felony possession of a stolen vehicle and felony speed to elude arrest. They expect more charges related to the car wrecks.
