2 people are in the hospital after a multi-county police chase ended with a crash in Pike Road, AL
Media, such as television and movies, have glamorized the idea of a high-speed chase. However, they are massive burdens for public safety. Recently, people in Alabama learned this after a man tried to escape a police traffic stop and ended up crashing. Now, two people are in the hospital, and multiple agencies are investigating.
No good can come from a high-speed chase caused by someone evading a traffic stop
According to WSFA, Prattville police officers recently tried to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle for a hit-and-run violation. However, like many people who see red and blue lights, the person behind the wheel tried to escape the police officers. Making matters worse, the male driver went the wrong way down the road as he began leading the police on a high-speed chase on Interstate 65 Northbound.
After trying to conduct the traffic stop for a while, the Prattville officers asked for assistance from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. Soon, the officers were pursuing the vehicle through Montgomery County and then the City of Montgomery. The chase also went through some of the surrounding areas. Sadly, things took a turn when the runaway car crashed into a commercial vehicle in Pike Road, Alabama.
Following the traffic stop, the officers learned that the driver and a passenger were both injured. They took the person behind the wheel to Baptist Medical Center South. The passenger was airlifted to UAB hospital. Due to the crash, all lanes of Highway 231 were closed for a time. They have since reopened. All involved agencies are now conducting an investigation.
