There are many reasons why a high-speed chase could erupt in the middle of traffic. Oftentimes, it’s because someone is trying to evade a police traffic stop. This happened recently in North Carolina, where police chased a Hyundai while it was speeding through the streets, posing a massive safety risk for everyone in its vicinity. Now, there are multiple minors facing felony charges.

Evading a traffic stop and engaging in a high-speed chase is illegal

According to WBTV, police officers tried to conduct a traffic stop on a Hyundai Elantra on March 3rd at about 2:15 a.m. The reason for the traffic stop is unknown, but this happened in Forsyth County. Sadly, the person behind the wheel of the compact sedan refused to pull over and even reached speeds of 100 miles per hour. Things continued, and the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office became involved and tried to stop the speeding vehicle.

From there, officers tried using stop sticks to conduct the traffic intervention on the vehicle and the people inside. However, they changed lanes and were able to avoid the obstacle. Things took a turn when the driver lost control of the vehicle and then hit a guardrail. The car then rolled over, and the police were able to intervene. This was also when the officers learned that there were three minors in the Hyundai.

Following the traffic stop, the police officers took the three individuals to the hospital for treatment. They had minor injuries and were later released into the custody of their parents. Now, their charges for felony fleeing to elude are “pending on juvenile referrals.”
