Car theft is a massive problem for people who own vehicles. Of course, it also impacts the general public as its a threat to overall safety. Recently, police officers in Florida received word of a stolen vehicle and had to take extreme measures in order to make a traffic stop. Now, the perpetrator is behind bars on multiple charges, including one for his decision to drive while under the influence.
Not only did the man run from a traffic stop, but he also decided to drive while under the influence
According to Local 10, police in Miami-Dade County received word of a wrong-way driver on February 20th at around 11:30 PM. At the time, the suspect was driving on the Palmetto Expressway near Northwest 67th Avenue. The officers soon spotted the SUV and tried to conduct a traffic stop. However, he backed into another vehicle before speeding off. At some point, they learned that the SUV had been reported stolen.
From there, the police continued trying to make the traffic stop on the car theft suspect. This was when they decided to use a PIT maneuver, which stopped the SUV near a guardrail. They then approached and arrested the man. However, he informed them that he had taken fentanyl and MDMA before getting behind the wheel of the stolen vehicle.
Things didn’t end there as the police found more drugs during the traffic stop. Specifically, they located two clear bags that contained a white, powdery substance. There was also a dog in the backseat of the SUV. Before jail, the police took the man to the Jackson West Medical Center, where he refused to submit to a urine or blood sample. Now, his charges include grand theft of a vehicle, driving under the influence, and driving with a suspended license.
