Police recently arrested a 46-year-old Florida man for DUI after finding him asleep on the highway and being led on a low-speed chase
Driving under the influence is one of the most dangerous things a person can do. This is the case because it’s the cause of several car wrecks each year. Recently, police officers found evidence that a Florida driver was intoxicated and tried to conduct a traffic stop. However, he led them on a low-speed chance, and then police arrested him for his actions.
Driving under the influence is never okay, but it’s worse when drivers then try to evade their traffic stop
According to WFLA, a Florida Highway Patrol officer was on duty around midnight on November 16th. Things were going as usual until he noticed a Ford Fusion parked in the middle of the road. The situation was especially concerning as other cars had stopped behind the vehicle. Naturally, the officer approached the Ford. This was when he noticed that the driver was asleep at the wheel.
The officer wrote in the report, “I tapped on the windows multiple times, and he did not wake up. The rear driver-side window was rolled down, and I tapped the back of the driver seat to wake him up, and he finally did.”
Upon waking up, the driver began to move the vehicle. Of course, he was also swerving between lanes as the officer tried to conduct a traffic stop. Eventually, he stopped driving the Ford Fusion and then exited. The officer says the driver had “slow, slurred speech” and that he had “extreme difficulty” walking in a usual manner.
During the traffic stop, the officer noticed the smell of alcohol, but the driver refused field sobriety testing. In the end, he was arrested for driving under the influence and for fleeing and attempting to elude. Luckily, no one was hurt. However, the likelihood of car wrecks goes up subconsciously when people are driving under the influence.
