Driver has a $100k bail after a traffic stop uncovered 31 pounds of cocaine in Eagle County, CO
Police conduct traffic stops every day and for various reasons. These encounters sometimes happen because police are performing random checkpoints. More often, this is the case because of traffic violations. Recently, the ladder of the two happened during a traffic stop, and it led to them uncovering a large volume of drugs. The driver is now facing serious charges.
This traffic stop led to several charges for the irresponsible driver
According to Denver 7, a police officer was on patrol duty in Eagle County, Colorado, on February 18th when they spotted a vehicle commit several traffic violations. Naturally, this led the officer to pull the driver over for a traffic stop, which exposed other issues. Sadly, two children were also present in the vehicle, one being six and the other four. The problem is that one of the kids was not properly restrained.
The sheriff’s office released a statement about the traffic stop. They said, “While addressing the traffic violation, the deputy’s training and experience led to suspicions of further criminal activity.” In other words, the police believed there were drugs in the vehicle and called a K-9 unit to the scene. This led to a search of the car on the side of the road.
The traffic stop continued, and the police officers found 14,188 grams of cocaine, which equates to about 31 pounds. The report says that the substance has “presumptively tested positive for cocaine, with indications of fentanyl.” They also found $26,000, which the authorities assume came from drug sales. The 26-year-old man was arrested and held on a $100,000 bond. His charges include unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, conspiracy, and child abuse.
