Sadly, the idea of evading a traffic stop isn’t as foreign as many people would like to assume. Of course, some people do this because they actually have something to hide. This happened in California recently when a shooting suspect in a minivan decided to run from the police with a dog in the vehicle.

Here’s what happened.

There is never a good reason to try evading a traffic stop

There are stories of drivers trying to evade a traffic stop each day. Of course, this can be dangerous to the person behind the wheel and everyone else on the road. According to ABC 7, this happened on November 7th in  Los Angeles County when local police tried to stop a minivan driver. However, the woman driving the vehicle refused to stop, leading law enforcement on a chase for about an hour.

So, why did this driver try to evade the traffic stop? The report says that she may have been connected to a recent shooting that saw two people wounded. Of course, she could have harmed even more people as her driving is reported to have become erratic during the pursuit. Additionally, there was a dog in the passenger seat for the duration of the chase.

While trying to conduct the traffic stop, the California Highway Patrol officers deployed spike strips. This is what ultimately ended the chase, as at least one tire on the minivan became flat. However, there was a standoff between the driver and the police officers before they were able to arrest her. She exited the vehicle at one point while holding the dog.

Regarding the dog, Los Angeles Animal Services is investigating who it belongs to. It’s also unclear what charges the traffic stop evading minivan driver will have.
