Toyota TRD Pro Promises Good Things for Off-Road Enthusiasts
Next week, Toyota will reportedly take the wraps off new flavors of the Tacoma, the Tundra, and the 4Runner, which will crown each segment as far as capability and performance. Dubbed the TRD Pro line, Toyota promises that the new vehicles will made to ”conquer the great outdoors” when they’re officially released on February 6.
That day is also the opening of the Chicago Auto Show, so we’d expect Toyota to make its introductions there. Aside from the teaser image above and a trailer that Toyota posted on YouTube, there’s really little else known about the range-topping vehicles.
From what we can discern, the models will likely feature some heavy black accenting, limited-edition TRD rims, the Pro line black badges, and the aggressively blacked-out grille seen for a split second in the video. Another picture of the 5.7-liter V8 badge on the Tundra implies that there are not any major surprises happening under the hood, but we’d assume the suspension of each vehicle has had a good going-over.
Whether the line will prove to be a competitive match for the mighty Ford Raptor is yet to be determined, but its development is a sign that Toyota is still quite invested in its American truck operations.
The 4Runner, meanwhile, is coming off a recent redesign for 2014, which Toyota is likely looking to capitalize on with this new option and trim package in order to try and rekindle consumer excitement for the nameplate.
