It’s no secret that Toyota SUVs have a solid reputation for being reliable, long-lasting, and durable. As a result, a few models have excellent resale values. However, the Toyota Land Cruiser isn’t leading the charge.

Drum roll please, the Toyota SUV with the best resale value is the Toyota 4Runner! The Toyota Land Cruiser might be a more popular name due to its legendary history, but it has to accept the silver medal.
The Toyota 4Runner only loses 35 to 40% of its value over 10 years of ownership. It has a solid reliability score due to its body-on-frame construction which increases durability and its off-roading capabilities.
Meanwhile, the Toyota Land Cruiser loses about 40 to 45% of its value during 10 years of ownership. It’s similar to the 4Runner only it’s considered to be luxurious.
The Land Cruiser might have a better resale value if it wasn’t so expensive and if it didn’t get discontinued in America. It left the market in 2021 due to declining sales, which ranged between $77,000 to over $94,000.
Meanwhile, the 4Runner has been around since 1984 with relatively lower prices. It started at $31,000 in 2021, making it much easier to obtain than the Land Cruiser.
However, everything hit the fan around 2020 and prices went crazy. Now the 2024 4Runner has an MSRP of $40,705.
At least the 4Runner currently still lives up to its reputation. The 2024 model has a reliability rating of 86 out of 100 from J.D.Power, which is great.
Scores between 70 and 80 are average, while scores between 81 and 90 are above average. Anything between 91 and 100 is best.
An average 4Runner model is expected to last between 300,000 to 350,000 miles with regular care and proper maintenance. There are many examples of 4Runner models making it over 500,000 miles, though.
But things could change. The next-generation Toyota 4Runner will launch in 2025 with a brand-new engine and other significant changes. It could cause a different Toyota SUV to surpass it with a better resale value.
