We are gathered here today to mourn the death of the Toyota Supra. This sports car is officially being discontinued, again. Production will end in 2026 as it goes out with a Final Edition bang. However, it might not disappear forever.

The Toyota Supra is being discontinued for now

Say goodbye to the current-generation Toyota Supra. Production of this enticing sports car is scheduled to end in March 2026. It feels like Toyota is playing with emotions as the Supra was first discontinued in 2002 before returning in 2019.

It’s being sent out to pasture for a few different reasons. For example, this two-door model has been struggling against declining sales. Plus, it was co-developed with BMW, and Toyota’s partnership with the German automaker is ending.

The current Supra shares a platform and multiple components with the BMW Z4, which is also being discontinued. When the Z4 ends production, the Supra won’t have access to the parts it needs to survive.

But according to MotorTrend, we won’t have to wait decades for the Supra to come back again. Toyota Vice President of Product Planning and Strategy, Cooper Erikson, shared that the absence of the Toyota Supra will leave a gap in the lineup.

But Toyota has the goal of filling the gap faster than it took last time. The company has its hands full with projects at the moment. However, rumors suggest that the next-generation Supra could be co-developed with Mazda.

Until then, the 2026 Toyota GR Supra Final Edition looks pretty interesting. It has larger brakes, improved underbody bracing, a stiffer anti-roll bar, and suspension enhancements. Plus, it has black matte wheels and a carbon-fiber rear spoiler.

The electronic dampers, power steering, and differential controls have been returned to provide sharper reactions. However, only 1,300 models will be available in America.
