When was the last time you took your Toyota to the dealership? If it’s been a few months, you might have missed a recall. In 2024, Toyota issued safety recalls affecting over 539,000 vehicles. The good news? Toyota will fix these problems for free at its dealerships.

Some major Toyota recalls from 2024:

  • 2024-2025 Toyota Tacoma (4WD) – Brake hoses may fail due to mud buildup
  • 2024 Toyota Sequoia & Tundra – Passenger-side tires may have been damaged during assembly
  • 2023-2024 Toyota Corolla – Steering shaft cracks may cause loss of steering control
  • 2023-2025 Toyota Corolla Hybrid & 2023-2024 Corolla Cross Hybrid – Brake system issue
  • 2022-2023 Toyota Tundra & Lexus LX – Potential engine debris could cause engine failure

Now, here’s what Toyota said about each recall and how to get your vehicle fixed.

Toyota Tacoma recall: 106,000 trucks affected

Toyota recalled certain 2024-2025 Tacoma trucks equipped with four-wheel drive due to a brake hose failure risk. “The rear brake hoses in the subject vehicles can be damaged over time if there is enough build-up of mud and dirt inside the rear wheels from operating under certain off-road conditions,” Toyota announced. This could cause a brake fluid leak, which means partial brake failure and increased risk of a crash.

Toyota said, “Approximately 106,000 vehicles are involved in the recall for the U.S.” The fix? “Toyota dealers will replace both rear brake hoses with improved ones at no charge to customers.” Owners should be notified by April 2025.

Sequoia and Tundra recall: 12,000 SUVs and trucks

Toyota recalled certain 2024 Sequoia and Tundra models due to potential tire failures. “The inner sidewall of the passenger-side front and rear tires may have been damaged during vehicle assembly,” Toyota stated. If damage occurred, “a tire may suddenly lose air pressure while driving, which could result in a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.”

Toyota will inspect and replace damaged tires for free. Owners will be notified by mid-December 2024.

Corolla recall: 8,000 vehicles with steering failure risk

Certain 2023-2024 Corolla cars models were recalled due to a steering shaft defect. “A part of the steering shaft, which allows the steering wheel to control the direction of the front wheels, may have been manufactured with cracks,” Toyota confirmed. “If the cracks grow over time, this part of the steering shaft can separate and can lead to a loss of steering, increasing the risk of a crash.”

Toyota will replace the faulty steering shafts at no cost. Notifications will be sent by late January 2025.

Corolla Hybrid and Corolla Cross Hybrid recall: 145,000 vehicles

Toyota expanded a brake system recall for 2023-2025 Corolla Hybrid and 2023-2024 Corolla Cross Hybrid models. “Approximately 103,000 vehicles in the U.S. are added in the expansion,” Toyota said. “Previously, 42,000 Corolla Cross Hybrid vehicles produced between June 2022 to September 2024 were included in the recall.”

Under specific conditions, “a driver may temporarily experience a hard brake pedal that can cause the stopping distance to be more than expected. This can increase the risk of a crash.” Toyota will update the skid control ECU software for free.

Toyota Tundra and Lexus LX recall: 102,000 vehicles with engine failure risk

The automaker recalled certain 2022-2023 Toyota Tundra and Lexus LX (gas models only) due to engine debris left during manufacturing. Here’s Toyota’s warning, “There is a possibility that certain machining debris may not have been cleared from the engine when it was produced.” This can cause “potential engine knocking, engine rough running, engine no start and/or a loss of motive power.”

Toyota emphasized, “A loss of motive power while driving at higher speeds can increase the risk of a crash.” The solution? “Toyota and Lexus dealers will replace the engine with a new one at no cost to customers.”
