The Toyota Tacoma has been one of the more popular midsize trucks for some time. But since 2016, outside of a facelift, it’s gone largely unchanged. On May 19th, 2023, that’s going to change. Because that is the official reveal date of the redesigned Tacoma. And leading up to the fourth-gen Tacoma, Toyota has really been teasing us with hints of what might lie ahead.

Will there be a redesigned Tacoma?

It looks like this midsize truck is getting a redesign for 2024. And that means we will finally have an all-new version of the Tacoma pickup. Toyota must know how many folks are waiting for this truck because on social media, we’ve been getting plenty of teasers.

The 2024 Toyota Tacoma has been long awaited. Most recently, the brand dropped a clip that shows the different body styles that this midsize truck will have. It looks like we’re going to get an extended cab, a crew cab, and long and short wheelbases. So that’s a little more diverse than the current Tacoma.

The other big news is the introduction of the Trailhunter trim. This comes with a roof rack and sport bar; it’s going to be a midsize truck aimed at off-road enthusiasts. Much like the Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro, which has also been confirmed for the redesigned model.

Will the new Toyota Tacoma have a manual transmission?

If you’re like me, you have probably been worried that the redesigned Tacoma will drop the option for three pedals. Well, according to Car and Driver, the 2024 Tacoma is going to retain its optional manual transmission. So, if you’re looking for a small truck with a manual, this is really the only option out there. Unless you also count the Jeep Gladiator.

Perhaps the next biggest news is that Toyota’s small truck will offer a hybrid powertrain. As it stands, both of the engines in the 2023 Tacoma feel pretty dated. And with the new i-Force engine, this pickup should feel more modern. It’s got twin turbos and powers other Toyota products like the Tundra and the Sequoia.

When is Toyota releasing the new Tacoma?

We don’t have a release date for the 2024 Toyota Tacoma, but the reveal date is May 19th. After months of teasers, that is when we will finally see what Toyota plans to put into production. Until that date, the brand will probably keep dropping hints across its social media platforms. After all, the folks at Toyota probably want to keep building the hype.

For the most part, it seems like the Tacoma hypes itself up. In 2023, Taco Tuesday has become synonymous with food and Toyota’s midsize truck. People enjoy this truck in stock form, but there’s also a thriving aftermarket community to make modifications.

I don’t see the love for this small pickup dying out any time soon. Brand loyalty is high among truck owners, and even in its aging form, the Tacoma is one of the hottest midsize pickups out there.
