Will there be a Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid?

On June 1st, 2022 Toyota officially revealed the 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid. The Corolla Cross Hybrid will be available in new sport grades. The subcompact hybrid SUV will come with plenty of standard features, including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Blind Spot Monitor, and Hill Start Assist Control.

The Corolla Cross Hybrid is an interesting addition to the Japanese automaker’s lineup. The Corolla Cross has created a buzz, but its performance specs haven’t exactly turned any heads. The subcompact SUV’s main appeal has been its value and affordability.

A hybrid version of the Corolla Cross opens up new possibilities for the subcompact SUV. This version will be more fuel-efficient and more powerful than the gas-powered Corolla Cross. Toyota claims the Corolla Cross Hybrid is available “exclusively with all-wheel drive.”

It gets an estimated 37 miles per gallon. The subcompact hybrid SUV makes 194 horsepower. That’s not far off from the popular Toyota RAV4’s 203 horses. The Corolla Cross Hybrid is shaping up to be much more desirable than its underpowered gas version.

The 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid seems to be a better buy than the Corolla Cross

The 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross is practical, but can we really characterize it as cool or stylish? “Cool” is subjective but it’s safe to say the subcompact SUV’s 169 horses didn’t exactly excite many drivers. The Corolla itself is often considered as a great economic option, but rarely ever considered to be the exciting option. The 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid’s powertrain adds some much needed flair to the nameplate.

The Corolla Cross Hybrid offers better traction, more power, and better fuel economy. The Japanese automaker has yet to release a price for the subcompact hybrid SUV yet, but it’s powertrain will surely tack on a few thousand dollars.

The 2022 Corolla Cross starts at $22,445. The Corolla Cross Hybrid’s price will likely start much closer to $25,000. Toyota is offering several trims and grade levels for the Hybrid, so the SUV could top out at close to $30K.

Should you buy a 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid?

The 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid will be a great-sedan alternative. The subcompact hybrid SUV will be pricier than the average sedan but it will offer plenty of cabin and cargo space as well as standard all-wheel drive.

If you’re considering buying a new subcompact SUV, the Corolla Cross Hybrid seems to be a great option. We’ll have to wait and see how the Japanese automaker prices this hybrid before judging whether or not it provides sufficient value.
