The Toyota Camry is the answer to just about every question a person can ask about a practical, affordable, and reliable car. In the midsize sedan segment, it’s been the #1 selling vehicle more times than not and routinely tops the list of best cars. 2022 is no different, as the Camry has earned Consumer Guide’s Best Buy award.

Here’s why the Camry is a Best Buy

The Camry manages to maintain its reputation by offering something for nearly everyone. Consumer Guide says the Toyota Camry “boasts dynamic styling, a fairly engaging driving personality (when properly equipped), and an excellent selection of powertrains and options to suit a broad range of buyers.”

The Camry has three powertrains: a four-cylinder, a potent V6, and a hybrid option. It’s available with front-wheel drive or optional all-wheel drive. There are five trim levels, which range from the economy sedan with basic specs to sport sedan and into “Lexus-level” luxury. There’s a TRD trim package with a more aggressive appearance or a limited Nightshade edition with blackout trim and stylish 19-inch bronze wheels.

Regardless of which options you pick, all Camrys come with a long list of standard equipment and safety features. Optional features include a 360-degree surround-view camera, LED headlights, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a brake-hold feature, and a head-up display.

2022 Toyota Camry specs and performance

The base Toyota Camry LE comes with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder 203 hp engine that gets 28 mpg city/39 mpg highway with front-wheel drive or 25 mpg city/34 mpg highway with all-wheel drive.

The V6 is available in the XLE or XSE trims and is rated at 22 mpg city/33 mpg highway. This 3.5L engine makes 301 hp.

For those interested in the hybrid, it uses a lithium-ion battery pack and gets 51 mpg city/53 mpg highway, making 208 net hybrid hp.

Is the Toyota Camry a good car?

As midsize sedan options narrowed in 2022, Consumer Guide laments at the lack of variations in the class. However, the success of dominating models like the Camry is due to their ability to meet consumer needs. The Toyota Camry is practical with a reputation for reliability and dependability. There was a time when it was also a bland appliance, but Toyota has livened it up in the past few years. The TRD package with a V6 will give a lot of so-called performance sedans a run for their money. The Nightshade edition offers distinctive looks and stands out from just about everything else offered in the Camry’s class.
