What comes with the 2023 Toyota 4Runner 40th Anniversary Special Edition?

We’re happy to celebrate with the new Toyota 4Runner 40th Anniversary Special Edition. The 4Runner has been a hit since its debut back in 1983 as a 1984 model. If you want the 40th Edition, make haste. Only 4,040 models will be available in the United States.

The 4Runner 40th Anniversary Special Edition is based on the SR5 Premium Grade and is available in shades of White, Midnight Black Metallic, and Barcelona Red Metallic. It rides on bronze-colored 17-inch alloy wheels.

In the front, you’ll notice a body-color-matching Toyota heritage grille, and a bronze-colored 40th-anniversary exterior tailgate badge sits on the rear.

The overall look is completed with exclusive heritage graphics consisting of retro-inspired yellow, orange, and red stripes across the hood and body.

The interior features bronze-colored accent stitching, exclusive badging, a standard power moonroof, 40th-anniversary floormats, and 40th-anniversary logos in the black SofTex-trimmed seats.

How much is the 2023 Toyota 4Runner?

Pricing for the 2023 Toyota 4Runner 40th Anniversary Special edition and other trim levels hasn’t been released. We will update you once the official pricing has been released. The 2022 model starts at $38,105.

It wouldn’t be surprising if the price increased by a few hundred bucks. Also, the SR5 Premium Grade adds simulated leather upholstery, heated front seats, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a power-adjustable front passenger seat, and keyless ignition and entry.

The 40th Anniversary Special Edition is only available with four-wheel drive, which is optional with other models in the lineup.

There aren’t many other changes for the new 4Runner. Toyota Safety Sense is now standard across the entire lineup. Plus, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert now come standard.

Is the 2023 4Runner worth buying?

Yes, the 2023 Toyota 4Runner 40th Anniversary Special Edition and other models across the lineup are worth buying. Despite feeling a bit dated, the 4Runner is known for being incredibly reliable and capable.

Plus, the 4Runner holds its resale value well. Over the past four decades, the 4Runner has surpassed over four million cumulative sales. It’s a popular SUV that keeps people happy both on and off the pavement.

The 4.0-liter V6 engine cranks out 270 hp and 278 lb-ft of torque. Rumors speculate that a new four-cylinder engine with 275 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque could be in the works. Of course, hybrid powertrain rumors are circulating as well.

When properly equipped, the 4Runner can tow up to 5,000 lbs, which is pretty good. We would like to see it gain a little extra muscle, though. The Jeep Grand Cherokee can tow up to 7,200 lbs.

The redesigned 4Runner isn’t here yet, but perhaps more unique models like the 40th Anniversary Special Edition will arrive. We will keep an eye out for more updates. The next-generation 4Runner is on the way.
