For the first time in over 40 years, a vehicle outsold the Ford F-150. It’s the Toyota RAV4, the best-selling model in the country. And it’s not the only Toyota badge on the list of the best-selling vehicles in the country. The Camry is the best-selling sedan in the country and the Corolla isn’t far behind.

America loves its pickup trucks. You need only look at the list of the best-selling vehicles in the country to confirm that. The F-Series lineup, including the extremely popular F-150, takes the No. 1 spot ahead of the Chevrolet Silverado. However, rising prices and inflation have driven Americans to look at alternatives, like the Toyota RAV4.

Considered as an individual model, the Ford F-150 lost its sales crown to the RAV4. Americans took home 475,193 RAV4s, while Ford sold 460,915 F-150s. Of course, the F-Series includes more than just the F-150, accounting for the 732,139 units for 2024.

Further down the rankings, the Toyota Camry took the No. 8 spot with 309,876 units in 2024. The Camry’s closest long-standing rival, the Honda Civic, was less popular to the tune of 67,871 units. It’s part of Toyota’s 9% sales bump last year, in contrast with Ford’s 5% decline.

Still, the Honda Civic’s No. 10 spot isn’t etched in stone. The Toyota Corolla was the eleventh best-selling vehicle for 2024, coming within 10,000 units of the Civic. That said, the Honda Civic’s sales improved by a substantial 41,624 units from 2023 to 2024, while the Corolla gained just 538.

Moreover, the RAV4’s American sales performance may take a hit in 2025 following an explosion at Toyota’s Fujioka plant in Toyota City, Japan. The blast claimed the life of a worker and shut down multiple production lines, including the brand’s RAV4 assembly in Aichi Prefecture. While most RAV4s sold in the United States are built in North America, over 20% of the SUV’s US sales are imports from Japan.
