According to Inside EVs, the accident occurred when a driver lost control of the powerful pickup. This may seem strange but if you consider the R1T’s massive 835 horsepower, the accident becomes much more reasonable. The R1T is easily one of the fastest pickup trucks ever made, overpowering legendary models like the Ram TRX.
The crashed R1T was a total loss after catching on fire. It starts at $67,500 for the base model Explore trim, but the first R1T available is the most expensive Launch Edition trim. The Launch Edition starts at a whopping $73,000.
Is the Rivian R1T a safe truck?
Other than its incredible power, thus far, there has been no reason to believe that the R1T is an inherently dangerous truck. The electric pickup truck may be quick, but thus far there have been no serious recalls for the vehicle. The R1T is the perfect off-road pickup truck in many ways. Sadly, most consumers will never get their hands on one because of its hefty price tag. If you do get the opportunity to drive or own a Rivian R1T, respect its speed and power because this is not the average pickup.
