Opting for an all-wheel drive (AWD) car is a prudent decision to tackle challenging climates and inclement weather, like snow. However, not every popular nameplate has an option with power heading to all four wheels. Still, the five list-topping cheap AWD cars are a smart buy with grip to spare, like the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek and Kia Seltos.

What cars have true AWD?

These five 2023 cheap models have AWD for grippy traction in inclement weather and driving on challenging surfaces:

  • 2023 Subaru Crosstrek: $24,870
  • 2023 Hyundai Kona AWD: $24,785
  • 2023 Mazda CX-30: $24,225
  • 2023 Kia Seltos AWD: $24,135
  • 2023 Subaru Impreza: $20,815

Moreover, these models made the top of MotorTrend’s cheapest AWD options list for 2023. As a result, these vehicles offer sure-footed mechanical grip for under $25,000.

Will the 2023 Crosstrek be redesigned?

The 2023 Crosstrek is very similar to the 2022 model year, aside from a few updates. For instance, Subaru is including a Desert Khaki edition for the 2023 model year, as well as an eight-inch Multimedia Plus infotainment system for the SE trim.

In addition to the few new treatments for the 2023 model year, the Subaru Crosstrek is one of the cheapest new cars with AWD. Like the Impreza, the Crosstrek gets the automaker’s standard AWD system without the need for a costly upgrade. Specifically, the Subaru model starts at around $24,870.

Is Hyundai Kona good in snow?

The Hyundai Kona AWD boasts all-wheel drive grip, so it’s better suited to snow than front-wheel drive (FWD) or rear-wheel drive (RWD) alternatives. However, unlike the Subaru Crosstrek and Impreza, the Kona’s AWD system is an optional upgrade from the standard FWD vehicle.

Moreover, the Kona AWD made MotorTrend’s list of the cheapest AWD vehicles for 2023. At $24,785, the Hyundai model is more affordable than a Subaru Crosstrek.

Is the 2023 Mazda CX-30 one of the cheapest AWD cars for 2023?

The 2023 Mazda CX-30 is one of the cheapest AWD vehicles for the 2023 model year. It starts at around $24,225 and packs all-wheel grip as a standard feature. Moreover, with sporty handling and a five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the CX-30 is a well-rounded option.

What is the starting price of a 2023 Kia Seltos?

The 2023 Kia Seltos AWD starts at around $24,135, making it cheaper than a comparable Hyundai Kona or Subaru Crosstrek. Moreover, that starting price snags the added grip of AWD, which is standard on most trims other than the S model.

Are Subaru Imprezas good in snow?

The Subaru Impreza is a staple in affordable transportation with the credentials to handle bad weather. For instance, the Subaru’s standard AWD system allows it to handle the snow much better than RWD or FWD cars.

Moreover, with a starting price of around $20,815, the 2023 Subaru Impreza tops MotorTrend’s list of the cheapest AWD cars for the model year. Additionally, the grippy feature isn’t an upgrade but rather standard equipment on every trim.
