We all have things we hate about driving in 2025. Distracted drivers, inconsiderate truckers, unending traffic, and long commutes; there’s really no shortage of complaint-worthy factors. But these 10 things are some of the things people hate the most about getting behind the wheel this year, based on polls.
Research indicates that these are some of the things motorists abhor the most about driving in 2025
Do you wake up sick of your commute or the drive ahead of you before you slink into the cabin of your car? You’re likely fatigued like so many of these motorists. And these are some of the things that drive drivers wild in 2025, from technology-related sillyness to the same old song of motorway madness.
- Sheer traffic volume
- Tailgating
- Turn signal-deniers
- Drivers who pass and then slow down
- Parking lot illiteracy
- Truckers
- Drivers with merge-lane ego problems
- Cell phone users
- Potholes, potholes, potholes
- Excessively loud exhaust systems
Traffic. Who loves the tidal wave of traffic they face every day? But traffic isn’t alone on the list of things drivers hate about their time behind the wheel. According to Confused.com, 59% of drivers hated tailgating most of all, while a close 55% of motorists are irritated by those who fail to signal or don’t signal at all.
Those drivers who overtake and slow down abruptly are also disliked by the polled motorists were a top annoyance, according to Ranker. 52% of annoyed motorists cite crappy parking as one of the things that drives them nuts. Truckers, specifically of the inconsiderate variety, are also on the list.
On Ranker’s short list, drivers “who won’t let you merge” take the No. 3 spot overall of driving annoyances. What’s more, 36% of 2,000 polled drivers said that drivers using cell phones while they pilot their cars is a top-tier irritation. Finally, potholes and loud exhaust systems register as complaint-worthy with drivers both here and in the UK.
So, what can you do about these infuriating driving habits? Easy. Start by applying the golden rule. Sure, there isn’t much you can do about potholes. You’re a citizen and not a road works crew, after all. But you can set the example by commanding your car with skill and consideration.
For instance, you can put that cell phone down. Even at stoplights. You can also stop committing common, easily avoidable mistakes behind the wheel. To paraphrase Smokey Bear, only you can avoid tailgating. Try applying the three-second rule to following traffic.
