More families than ever before are seeking new adventures in a recreational vehicle. The COVID-19 pandemic created an unprecedented spike in sales as consumers sought out alternative travel options.

Thor Industries, the world’s largest manufacturer of recreational vehicles, is catering to the growing demand for family-friendly models. With more than 18 RV companies under its umbrella, the industry giant knows a thing or two about what its customers want.

Understanding the needs of active families, Thor is designing new floor plans, color schemes, and storage options to lure buyers to their brand.

If you are in the market for an RV, whether for full-time living or weekend camping excursions, watch out. You may be pleasantly surprised to discover Thor is targeting your family.

Thor offers an impressive lineup of recreational vehicles

Thor Industries, established in 1980 by Wade Thompson and Peter Orthwein, is the sole owner of the biggest RV manufacturers in the world. Some of the major brands included in the Thor product line include Airstream, DRV Luxury Suites, Entegra Coach, Dutchmen, and Vanleigh.

The giant corporation even recently purchased Tiffin Motorcoach, shocking industry analysts and consumers alike. Thor’s products make up some of the most recognizable motorhome brands, offering a vast array of styles and sizes to meet consumer demand.

When Thor acquired Keystone RV in 2001, their dominance in the RV industry became apparent. In 2010, they became the largest manufacturer of towable RVs after purchasing Heartland RV, its largest acquisition thus far. In 2016, the Jayco brand became part of the Thor Industries family.

Camping with the family has never been easier

According to the Recreational Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA), most recreational vehicles offer less than 400 square feet of livable space. Considerably less than the smallest of apartments, every option added to these units fights for valuable real estate. The major RV brands have accepted the challenge to design spacious environments, providing the utmost in comfort and versatility.

Thor has mastered the family-friendly floorplan, allowing sleeping accommodations for up to eight occupants. Bunkhouse models offer the most room for large families, offering a separate bedroom with quad bunks and sometimes a separate bathroom.

Thor brands utilize cab-over sleeping areas, theater seating, opposing slides, and bunk beds to make the best use of space. Exterior kitchens, washer and dryer units, and residential refrigerators add to the comfort level of full-time RV living or occasional camping. White cabinets are starting to replace the dark wood of previous RVs, and light, fun colors are being adopted to appeal to younger families.

With vast experience developing trailers, Thor Industries manages to create quality RVs suitable for families of any size. Despite the small footprint, there is plenty of room for kids, pets, friends, and family to enjoy camping in a travel trailer.

Are the family-friendly features worth it?

“Are we there yet?” is the rallying cry of any family that has taken a road trip together. Having a comfortable place to settle in for the night after a long drive can make even the most tired family member feel rejuvenated.

Some may argue that staying in a luxury RV isn’t camping, but that person probably hasn’t spent a night in a new trailer.

There is no longer a need to bring along a sleeping bag, as most models offer the comforts of home without having to pack a suitcase. Spending a night or two under the stars in a tent is fantastic, but most campers agree, there is nothing better than sleeping in an air-conditioned bedroom after a long day of exploring.

Thor Industries has thought of everything to make sure families are comfortable while camping. The only thing not included in the kitchen cabinets is the marshmallows.
