Save with the 2020 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road
The 2020 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro has an MSRP of around $43,960. This price is before the destination fee, and dealer markups have been added. So, it may cost a little closer to $50,000. Either way, $43,000 is one expensive midsize truck.
But we can’t dis the TRD Pro. It comes with advanced off-roading equipment and tech to make the price worth it. However, The Fast Lane Truck shared how to get an excellent off-roading truck for less, and it’s still a Tacoma. To be specific, it’s the 2020 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road.
The Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road vs. TRD Pro
Usually, the Tacoma TRD Pro gets the spotlight as Toyota uses them to showcase their high-end equipment and technology. Because of this, the TRD Off-Road trim hasn’t received much love. But once you compare the two trim options, you’ll see why it should receive more attention.
The 2020 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road trim has an MSRP of about $34,000. That’s about $10,000 less than the TRD Pro, providing a truckload of savings. Plus, both models are pretty similar.
The Tacoma TRD Pro has Fox Shocks, but the Off-Road has specially tuned Bilstein Shocks, so deciding between these trucks may depend on which shocks you like more. Fox Shocks have piggyback reservoirs with more heat resistance capacity.
But they both use Goodyear Wrangler tires with kevlar. Sure, the TRD Pro has an aluminum skid plate, but the Off-Road Pro also comes with a durable skid plate. It just doesn’t have TRD Pro stamped in it.
It will still protect the undercarriage from scrapes. The TRD Pro has a bit more ground clearance, which can be a benefit. This is because it has a slight lift in the front. The ride quality of both trims feels very similar.
Tacoma TRD Off-Road and TRD Pro features
The 2020 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro and Off-Road trims have the same engine. It’s a 3.5-liter V6 engine with 278-hp and 265 lb-ft of torque. Both of these trucks offer a manual transmission, and you can save about $1,800 by opting to change your own gears.
Both trims offer a double cab with a short bed, but you can opt for a loner bed with the TRD Off-Road trim. This will provide convenience by allowing you to bring more stuff on adventures or if you plan to build an overlanding truck.
The Tacoma TRD Pro does have a hood scoop, but it’s not functional right now. It comes with leather seats, too, while the TRD Off-Road has cloth seats. But you aren’t giving up much tech with the Tacoma TRD Off-Road.
It comes with multi-terrains mode, crawl control mode, and a button for the rear-differential locker. The Pro has a 360-degree surround-view camera, but the Off-Road doesn’t have a front camera. It offers a reverse camera and has cameras in the side mirrors to enhance visibility, though.
