Imagine the possibilities if America’s best-selling truck and the Shelby Mustang had a love child. You’d have a powerful, stylish, beast of a truck, with enough rumble under the hood to give you goosebumps. This powerhouse vehicle exists, albeit rare. We had to jump in to learn more about the Shelby F-150’s mind-blowing girth and performance.

The fans brought the Super Snake to life

The Shelby F-150 Super Snake Sport was originally an idea in R&D. Gary Patterson, President of Shelby American, said the exercise was strictly to design a ‘street-legal truck’ that could offer ‘blistering performance.’

But, when the media and enthusiasts jumped on board, the Shelby team was fan-petitioned into fast-tracking production. Vince LaViolette, Shelby American VP of Operations and Chief R&D, says the truck is lighting fast, wicked fun to drive, and promises it will deliver the track style that Shelby fans adore.

This beefy contribution to the Shelby family will be built early next year in Las Vegas. Only select Ford dealerships will have this striped behemoth available for purchase.

What kind of power is hiding under that hood?

Ok, this truck has the most horsepower packaged under the hood than even the most powerful Mustang does. Under the hood, it has a 5.0-liter V8 supercharged engine. That engine can put out an incredible 770 horsepower, 10 more than the Mustang GT500.

Other features that will make most jaws hit the floor include slotted rotors, a Shelby aero kit and bedcover, upgraded control arms, six-pot Baer calipers, and of course, a custom interior design.

Just how fast is the Shelby F-150?

We can talk ‘capable’ power, but let’s allow the times to speak for themselves. With Shelby at the helm, the engine design for the Super Snake delivers on the pavement. When the pedal hits the floor, the truck goes from zero to 60 in under 3.5 seconds. It clocked a zero to 100 time of 8.3 seconds. Those might look more like GT500 stats, but this is a truck we’re talking about here.

Looks are everything after all

The four-wheel drive pickup looks just as handsome as its engine is powerful. You’ll see mesh grilles, blacked-out 22-inch rims, and a custom bumper.

It wouldn’t feel like a Shelby if it didn’t have the racing stripes. In the cabin, drivers can position precisely in the Alcantara seats, read Shelby gauges, and have racing pedals at their feet. Expect the Shelby trademark badges, designed for the Super Snake Sport, sprinkled around the various touchpoints.

How limited is limited production?

The fans circulated the petition, and the 2020 Shelby Ford F-150 Super Snake became a reality. While it’s in production for first-quarter delivery next year, it will be limited.

Only 250 of these beasts will be produced. And, if the rare availability doesn’t make it hard to buy, the price tag might. A supercharged version will run about $93,400, while the 395-hp model will cost $86,000. This unicorn will have rare sightings considering the production limitations and the starting sticker.

Come 2020, you may want to check the Ford dealerships in your area to see if any were selected to have one of these Shelby F-150s. You may be lucky enough to see one in person, or better yet, sit behind the wheel. For those ultimate F-150 and Shelby enthusiasts, spending $90,000 is worth every penny.

After all, the Shelby F-150 is the powerhouse offspring of the two best-loved vehicle performers in America. It might be the most powerful set of street-legal wheels on the road, as well as the best of both muscle car and pickup worlds.
