The Ford F-150 is an icon. It’s been a favorite for years, and there’s little to no chance that’s ever going to change. Now in the 2021 model year, the Ford F-150 is available with an all-new hybrid powertrain. But does that hybrid powertrain change how capable America’s favorite truck is? Not really, actually. In fact, the 2021 Ford F-150 Hybrid is capable of quite a lot.

What’s under the hood of the 2021 Ford F-150 Hybrid

Driven by an all-new 3.5-liter PowerBoost full hybrid V6 powertrain, the Ford F-150 Hybrid is the only light-duty full-size pickup to offer a hybrid powertrain. Available on every trim level, this hybrid powertrain is also the most powerful engine in the F-150 lineup. According to Ford, it delivers a whopping 430-hp and targets an EPA-estimated range of approximately 700 miles on a single tank of gas.

How much can this hybrid pickup tow?

This pickup is strong. While the gas-powered F-150 boasts a maximum towing capacity of 14,000 pounds, which Autoblog reports marks an increase of 800 pounds over last year’s model, the 2021 F-150 Hybrid can tow up to 12,700 maximum pounds when properly equipped.

To determine its overall towing capacity, Ford put this hybrid pickup through several tests too. Ford used it to tow fully loaded trailers over desert mountain passes, took it off-road, and tested it using high-humidity chambers, salt baths, and more.

“Just because it’s a hybrid doesn’t mean we treated PowerBoost with kid gloves,” explained Craig Schmatz, F-150 chief engineer. “To earn Built Ford Tough certification, PowerBoost went through the torture testing we put all of our powertrains through. No F-150 powertrain gets a pass, we have one standard for quality and durability.”

The F-150 Hybrid boasts plenty of work-ready features too

The 2021 Ford F-150 Hybrid can do more than tow too. In fact, it can do a whole lot more. Ford outfitted this pickup in such a way that it’s basically a worksite on wheels. With the new available interior work surface, the F-150 Hybrid makes working on the go an easy feat. Add in the available tailgate work surface, and the F-150 Hybrid becomes an even better option for getting things done.

That’s not all the F-150 Hybrid has to offer either. It’s also available with a 12-inch touchscreen display featuring the new generation of SYNC. This infotainment system not only gives you access to available features like enhanced voice recognition but also works with automatic Over-the-Air Updates.

Is it time you take the wheel of the Ford F-150 Hybrid?

Why not? There’s no denying that the Ford F-150 is an iconic pickup. The hybrid variant can definitely tow and is stock full of features. Nothing wrong with heading to your local Ford dealership and taking this hybrid pickup out for a spin.
